The Attleborough National Bank was organized on July 17, 1865, and by law was to have succession for the period of twenty years from its organization. As the law then stood, its existence as a legal entity would have ended on July 17, 1885. Previously to the expiration of this time, on July 12, 1882, the United States statute of that date was enacted, the principal object of which was to enable the associations formed *190under the United States banking law to prolong their corporate existence for an additional period.
