Petitioner-Appellee, Alonzo Evans (Evans), is serving a 30-year prison sentence following his conviction in state court for aggravated robbery, which was enhanced by two prior convictions. Evans filed a habeas corpus petition under the Antiter-rorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (AEDPA), 28 U.S.C. § 2254, in which he claimed his trial counsel was ineffective.
