The dispositive issue raised by this appeal is whether statements made to the police in connection with a criminal investigation are absolutely privileged or quaiifiedly privileged. The appeal arises out of an action for, inter alia, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress brought by the plaintiff, Gary Gallo, who seeks compensatory damages for allegedly false and malicious statements that the defendants, Michael J. Barile, Paula Robarge and Ronald Roberts, had made to a state trooper conducting an investigation into the plaintiffs alleged criminal…
