The appellant was arraigned before a general court-martial, convened at Fort Ord, California, on one charge and specification of absence without leave, one charge and five specifications of uttering bad checks with intent to defraud, and an additional charge and two specifications of uttering worthless checks with intent to deceive, in violation of Articles 86 and 123(a), Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC §§ 886 and 923(a), respectively.
