The plaintiffs are two individuals who injured their backs while moving heavy objects in the course of their employment at one of the defendant’s stores. In an effort to escape the exclusive-remedy provisions of Louisiana’s workman's compensation statute, the plaintiffs filed suit in state court alleging that their injuries were caused by an “intentional act” of the defendant.
