FIELD, Circuit Justice.
The petitioner alleges that she is illegally restrained of her liberty by the coroner of the city and county of San Francisco, and asks to be discharged from such restraint. The facts of the case, as detailed in the proceedings before us, are briefly as follows: The petitioner is a subject of the empire of China, and came to the port of San Francisco as a passenger on board of the American steamship Japan, owned by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, and under the command as master, of J.
