The defendant, David Bruce, was indicted for felony criminal mischief for purposely causing over $1,000 worth of damage to the *39automobile of William Douglass. See RSA 634:2 (1997). After a jury trial in Superior Court (Coffey, J.), he was convicted of misdemeanor criminal mischief.
