A class of white police officers and the Detroit Police Lieutenants & Sergeants Association have brought this action, alleging that they were illegally discriminated against when the City of Detroit adopted an affirmative action program whereby equal numbers of white and black police sergeants were promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
