This appeal arises from various rulings made in the course of the criminal trial of the defendant, David Lewis. The defendant was charged with one count of the crime of murder in violation of General Statutes § ñSa-ñAa1 and two counts of the *604crime of conspiracy to commit murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-482 and 53a-54a. He was tried before a jury of twelve. The jury returned a verdict finding the defendant guilty of murder and of one count of conspiracy to commit murder, but acquitting him of the second conspiracy count.
