On July 2, 2005, a fire inside the apartment of the plaintiff Daisy Maldonado resulted in the deaths of two of her children, serious injury to her third child, and serious injury to another adult. Maldonado and the father of one of the deceased children, in various capacities, commenced several actions against, among others, the owner and manager of the apartment complex, seeking, inter alia, damages for personal injuries and wrongful death.
