Appellant Steven Regent pled guilty to one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery arising out of an incident in which he twice, in quick succession, slashed his girlfriend’s throat. The Court of Appeals affirmed Regent’s conviction and sentence for each offense, see Regent v. State, 333 Ga. App. 350 (774 SE2d 213) (2015), and we granted certiorari to review the Court of Appeals’ conclusion that Regent’s convictions do not merge.
