This medical malpractice case arises out of the care and treat ment' provided to D’Arcy Washington after he was shot in the chest and shoulder area as he attempted to burglarize a house in Walton County. Because of the severity of the wound, emergency medical technicians at the scene of the shooting applied military anti-shock trousers (MAST), which force blood from the legs to the trunk in order to maintain blood flow to the vital organs.
