OPINION OF THE COURT

GRAVELLE, Judge:

Contrary to the pleas entered on his behalf by the military judge, the appellant was convicted, in absentia, by a general court-martial composed of officer members of attempted kidnapping, escape from custody, assault and battery, and communication of a threat, in violation of Articles 80, 95, 128, and 134, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 880, 895, 928 and 934 (1982).
