The New York State Fee Dispute Resolution Program was established as part 137 of the Rules of the Chief Administrator of the Courts (22 NYCRR) in order to provide for “the informal and expeditious resolution of fee disputes between attorneys and clients through arbitration and mediation” (22 NYCRR 137.0). The part provides that absent an agreement at the outset of the attorney-client relationship, when an attorney and her client cannot agree on the attorney’s fee, the attorney is required to forward to the client a written “Notice of Client’s Right to…
