*1053The issue presented in this case is whether a visitor to a courthouse implicitly consents to an X-ray and hand search of the inside of his knapsack as a condition of entry into the building. The defendant is charged with petit larceny (Penal Law § 155.25) and criminal possession of stolen property (Penal Law § 165.40). The defendant is accused of stealing a handbag belonging to an employee of the Bronx Defenders, a public defenders organization. The handbag was recovered from inside the defendant’s knapsack during a search conducted by a uniformed court…
