In July 2004, Linda Davis, Chief Judge of Michigan’s 41B District Court, fired Patricia Barachkov, Nancy Englar, and Carol Diehl (collectively “the Employees”). The Employees filed suit against Davis in her individual and official capacities, alleging violations of their procedural due process rights under the Fourteenth Amendment. The case was tried to a jury, which returned a verdict in favor of the Employees and awarded compensatory and punitive damages.
