The issue that we must resolve in this appeal is whether the trial court properly granted the state's motion to forcibly medicate the defendant, Lishan Wang, in order to restore his competency to stand trial. The defendant was charged with murder and various other offenses in connection with the shooting death of Vajinder Toor in the town of Branford on April 26, 2010. Over the next several years, the defendant was found incompetent to stand trial, restored to competency, and then found incompetent again.
