Introduction
Plaintiff John Reed (“Reed”) works as a longshoreman at the harbor in Duluth, Minnesota. On November 8,1995, Reed was injured as he was walking down the gangway of the M/V Gordon C. Leitch, a Great Lakes carrier that was moored in the Duluth harbor. Reed then filed suit, alleging a claim for negligence under the Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, 33 U.S.C. § 905(b).
