HOWELL, Chief Judge.
Jerome Burroughs appeals from his conviction for third-degree criminal sexual conduct. We reverse and remand for a new trial.

According to the evidence presented by the State, Burroughs met the victim at magistrate’s court in Conway, South Carolina, in January 1994. When Burroughs learned that the victim and her children were being evicted, he offered to let her rent a house he owned in Andrews.
