1Opinion of the Court

SNEED, Circuit Judge:

Day Island Yacht Club appeals from the district court’s exercise of pendent jurisdiction over Margaret Dezell’s sex discrimination claims and challenges the district court’s exercise of subject matter jurisdiction over her federal claim. We hold that subject matter jurisdiction was lacking and that, although the district court had power *326to exercise pendent jurisdiction over the state law claims, it abused its discretion in doing so.
