This appeal derives from two convictions in two separate causes in the trial court (triah cause numbers 881374 and 881375, and appellate cause numbers 01-02-00317-CR and 01-02-00316-CR, respectively). Because both appeals raise substantially the same issues, we address them together on appeal.
