LIPEZ, Circuit Judge.
Peter Dugas was convicted of arson in New Hampshire state court. He petitioned for a federal writ of habeas corpus on the grounds, inter alia, that he had received constitutionally ineffective assistance of counsel under Strickland v. Washington, 466 U.S. 668, 104 S.Ct. 2052, 80 L.Ed.2d 674 (1984). The district court found that trial counsel’s performance was deficient, but found no prejudice, granted summary judgment against Dugas, and denied the petition.
