Appellant Damon Smith was found guilty after a jury trial of second-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, carrying a pistol without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of an unregistered firearm, in connection with the March 2004 shooting death of Bradley Gant. 1 Smith also was convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon for an earlier incident in which Smith allegedly stabbed Gant. 2 On appeal, Smith contends that the trial court erred by (1) precluding testimony about…
