In most criminal cases the Judge is not called upon to revisit the sentencing decision. From time to time, however, a sentenced defendant completes the appellate process unsuccessfully and then returns to the trial court with an application for resentencing consideration. Although there is no specific statutory provision authorizing such applications, the trial courts have seen fit to grant them in certain special *3situations.
