OPINION

NYE, Chief Justice.

This is a medical malpractice case. Appellant, Esther Gonzales, sued appellee, L.B. Outlar, M.D., and South Texas Medical Clinics, P.A., for negligence and breach of professional duty by failing to take precautions to prevent or reduce her post-operative blood-clotting problems. Dr. Outlar and South Texas Medical Clinics moved for summary judgment on the basis that no genuine issue of material fact existed regarding two essential elements of her cause of action, breach of duty and proximate cause.
