OPINION OF THE COURT

Alexander, J.

We are called upon on this appeal to resolve the issue left open in Cove v Sise (71 NY2d 910): namely, whether the Classification Review Board of the Unified Court System (the Board) has the authority to reclassify job classifications established by the Chief Administrative Judge (CAJ) when it finds that such classifications are "unjust and inequitable”. We conclude that the Board does not have such authority and that the classification review process, as established by the Chief Judge, was not intended to confer such power and authority on the Board.
