A DeKalb County jury found Ophelio Gonzalez 1 guilty of three counts of armed robbery, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of hijacking a motor vehicle, and one count of aggravated assault. On appeal, Gonzalez asserts numerous claims of error, including that the trial court erred in denying his motion for a directed verdict, in admitting into evidence his custodial statement to police, in allowing the prosecutor to make improper opening and closing arguments, in allowing improper similar transaction and bad character evidence, and in failing to give his requested jury…
