The appellant, William C. Hammond, was convicted of rape in the first degree, see § 13A-6-61, Ala.Code 1975; rape in the second degree, see § 13A-6-62, Ala. Code 1975; sodomy in the second degree, see § 13A-6-64; sexual abuse in the first degree, see § 13A-6-66, Ala.Code 1975; and sexual abuse in the second degree, see § 13A-6-67, Ala.Code 1975. The circuit court sentenced Hammond to 40 years’ imprisonment on the first-degree rape conviction, 20 years’ imprisonment on the second-degree rape conviction, 20 years’ imprisonment on the second-degree sodomy conviction, 10 years’…
