This is an appeal by the defendant, American Universal Insurance Company, from a final judgment entered as of March 9, 1983, after a jury trial in the Superior Court.

The plaintiff, Frances Vucci (Vucci), brought suit in 1977 seeking recovery for personal injuries sustained in a downtown Providence parking lot when a guardrail against which she was leaning collapsed, causing her to fall some two feet onto a ramp.
