In 2002 the government charged Gregg Becker with one count of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud. See 15 U.S.C. §§ 78j(b), 78ff; 17 C.F.R. § 240.1Ob-5; 18 U.S.C. § 371. After a jury trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (Patterson, J.), Becker was convicted on both the substantive and the conspiracy counts.
