Plaintiffs filed two separate actions in the circuit court of Cook County. Plaintiffs sought relief under section 8 — 2001 of the Code of Civil Procedure (hereinafter section 8 — 2001) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 110, par. 8 — 2001 (now 735 ILCS 5/8 — 2001 (West 1994))) and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 12V-h, par. 261 et seq.
