On 23 November 1999, a jury found Cindy Hammer Stevenson Barber (“defendant”) guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her husband, Tony Charles Stevenson (“decedent”). Evidence at trial tended to show the following: On the evening of 31 January 1996, defendant telephoned 911 emergency assistance and informed the dispatcher that decedent had shot himself.
