The complaint alleges that the plaintiffs rendered “professional services” and furnished supplies of the reasonable value of $2,275.73, at the special instance and request of the defendant. These averments the answer denies. As a “separate and further defense and cross-complaint,” it is alleged that “the plaintiffs are engaged in the profession of mapping, surveying and reporting the value of prospective mineral lands and are geologists”; that through F.
