Plaintiffs, who are mother and daughter, instituted this action to recover damages for personal injuries sustained as the result of a rear end collision between two automobiles, both of which were proceeding in a general northerly direction along Highway No. 6, commonly known and referred to as the “Mint Canyon Road”; in the county of Los Angeles. For some distance north and south of where the collision occurred the highway is divided into three traffic lanes, designated by white painted lines.
