By this proceeding it was sought to compel the defendants, the common council of.the town of Sumas, to canvass the returns of the election held on December 4, 1894, as returned to them by the officers of election, and from the face of such returns ascertain and declare the persons elected and issue to them certificates of such election. The result was a judgment substantially as prayed for by the plaintiffs, to reverse which the defendants have prosecuted this appeal.
