1. The construction which will uphold a contract in whole and in every part is to be preferred; and the whole contract should be looked to in arriving at the construction of any part. Civil Code (1910), § 4268 (3). In determining whether the contract is entire, the question is whether the whole amount, or the entire service, is of the essence of the agreement. Broxton v.
