Plaintiff Carolyn McDonald filed this lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Lowndes County, Alabama. She is charging defendants Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa and Rod E. Freeman with state-law claims for fraud and negligence, arising out of the sale of an insurance policy. The defendants removed this lawsuit from state court to this federal court based on diversity-of-citizenship jurisdiction. 28 U.S.C.A. §§ 1332, 1441.
