COX, Judge:
Appellant was tried by a general court-martial with members at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas, in August and September 1987. Contrary to his pleas, he was found guilty of attempted rape and premeditated murder, in violation of Articles 80 and 118, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC §§ 880 and 918, respectively. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, total forfeitures, reduction to E-l, and a dishonorable discharge. The convening authority approved the findings and sentence except for the forfeitures, which he reduced to $300.00 per month for 16 months.…
