Varonika Hamilton filed a complaint in the Montgomery Circuit Court (“the trial court”) against the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education (“the Department”) and Chattahoochee Valley Community College (“CVCC”) seeking declaratory relief or, in the alternative, the issuance of a writ of mandamus requiring the Department and CVCC (hereinafter together referred to as “the petitioners”) to reinstate her to her employment with CVCC.
