BEACH, J.

The defendant, Parasurama Rabindra-nauth, appeals from the judgment of conviction, following a jury trial, of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a. The defendant claims that (1) the court’s supplemental instructions to the jury in response to a note misled the jury, (2) the court abused its discretion in not admitting into evidence information about the victim’s prior arrests and a photograph purportedly depicting the victim and (3) the court abused its discretion in precluding the testimony of an expert witness on the topic of gang violence.
