OPINION OF THE COURT
STAPLETON, Circuit Judge:
Jackson Robinson killed Stedley Joseph on March 10,1993 with a two-by-four he picked up while they were fighting. Robinson was tried in the District Court of the Virgin Islands for first degree murder. The jury convicted Robinson of the lesser-included offense of voluntary manslaughter. On appeal, Robinson argues that the district court erroneously refused to instruct the jury regarding the defenses of self-defense and excusable homicide.
