Following a bench trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, Reynaldo Segara, was found guilty of eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, pars. 12-14(aX2), (aX3), (a)(4)), one count of aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4(a)) and one count of unlawful restraint (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 10 — 3(a)). The circuit court subsequently merged the convictions for aggravated battery and unlawful restraint and sentenced defendant to 18 years’ imprisonment for aggravated criminal sexual assault.
