Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Sullivan County (Ledina, J.), rendered June 10, 1997, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crime of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on December 3, 1995, defendant, while driving through the Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, lost control of his car and skidded off the road.
