In December 2007, a jury convicted defendant, James Owens, of retail theft. In February 2008, the trial court sentenced defendant to a 10-year prison term. Defendant appeals, arguing (1) the court committed reversible error when it failed to comply with Illinois Supreme Court Rule 431(b) (eff.
