Demetrius Curtis was charged with possession of cocaine, simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. In a bench trial, Curtis was found guilty of all three charges, and judgment was entered on January 22, 2001, sentencing him to ten years’ imprisonment in the Arkansas Department of Correction. On appeal, Curtis challenges the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his conviction for simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, based on the State’s failure to prove that the gun he possessed met the statutory definition…
