COOK, Judge:

The appellant was tried by general court-martial with members at the U.S. Naval Station, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, during December 1976 and January 1977. In accordance with his plea, he was convicted of an unauthorized absence of approximately 22 months, in violation of Article 86, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 886. He was sentenced to a bad-conduct discharge, confinement at hard labor for 6 months, reduction to pay grade E-l, and total forfeitures.
