¶ 1. Shawn Lawan McLaurin was indicted by a Hinds County grand jury for the rape of L.E. pursuant to Mississippi Code Annotated section 97-3-65 (Rev.2006). He was tried and convicted of rape by a jury in the Hinds County Circuit Court. The trial court sentenced him to serve life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections [MDOC]. Aggrieved by his conviction and sentence, McLaurin appeals arguing that: (1) he received ineffective assistance of counsel; (2) the trial court erred in denying McLaurin to cross-examine the victim about his alleged gunshot…
