STATEMENT OF THE CASE

Defendant Jeffrey Jones was charged by bill of information on September 4, 1998 with possession of cocaine, a violation of La. R.S. 40:967(C). Defendant pled not guilty at his September 11, 1998 arraignment. A preliminary hearing and motion to suppress was held, and the trial court found probable cause and denied the motion to suppress. At the jury trial, the defendant was found guilty of attempted possession of cocaine.
