In the early morning of July 19, 1932, the plaintiff, at that time an employee of the defendant gravel company, hereafter called the defendant, left his home and walked about two and one-half miles to the city hall in the city of Saginaw, where, as was the usual practice, he was picked up by a truck belonging to the defendant and driven to his place of work on the highway between Saginaw and Bridgeport.
