Although the papers in this case are very voluminous, and many points have been mooted by counsel on either side, yet its merits lie, comparatively, within a narrow compass. The complainants, as the judgment creditors of the Mississippi and Alabama Railroad Company, have levied an execution upon a number of negro slaves in the hands of the defendant, Petrie, in which they allege the said company has an equitable interest, which they ask to have applied to the payment of their judgments.
